Community members have organized “The Keystone Exams: What every parent needs to know,” a session to be held at 5 p.m. Sunday.

The Keystone exams are end-of-course exams in certain subjects (currently algebra, literature and biology). The exams replaced the 11th grade PSSA this year, and eventually, they will become a graduation requirement for students.

Umar Johnson, a speaker and nationally certified school psychologist, and Jonathan Queen, an author and motivational speaker, will be speaking.

Johnson will talk about the exams, how to prepare, and the possible consequences if students don’t prepare, said Alana Barnes, one of those organizing the event.

Queen, who has held other community events related to helping people get back on their feet after prison, will present on what the consequences could be for not preparing for the exams or dropping out of school, Barnes said.

Anyone can attend. The event will be held at the Crispus Attucks Community Center, 605 S. Duke St., York.

On testing: I recently asked parents to share their views on standardized testing. Share your thoughts in the comments!
